Best ski resorts in Japan

Have you tried out all of your local skiing prospects and are seeking out something new? Perhaps you might like to consider heading off to Japan to check out some of their world-famous ski runs. Here’s a rundown of a few of the better places to ski or snowboard in Japan:

Shiga Kogen resort in Nagano: This resort is located in an exquisite national park in the Chubu area of Japan. It comprises over 21 ski fields, and boasts 70 levels, and is renowned for its wide-ranging and varied terrain, stunning views, and high-quality snow. This is the place to check out if you’re serious about your winter sports.

Hakuba: Also located in the Chubu area of Japan, about a 1 hour’s drive from the city of Nagano, and not far from the massive sprawl of Tokyo, is a resort known as Hakuba. Like its nearby relative Shiga Kogen, Hakuba also boats great quality snow, great conditions, and beautiful views. There are 14 ski fields in the area, and it’s a great place for both skiing and snowboarding.

Niseko: Niseko is a popular skiing town located on the island of Hokkaido. It’s well-known for its size, good weather conditions, and its high-quality infrastructure, and is regarded by many as the best place to go skiing in Japan. You’ll find good conditions in the off-season, too.

If you’ve never considered skiing in Japan, it’s something that you should put your mind to. Not only will you experience high-quality runs and fields, but you’ll also get to experience the wonder that is Japanese culture, with all of its contradictions and extremes. You’ll find that the locals are extremely friendly and willing to help out a hapless stranger, and that most people will speak at least a smattering of English—particularly around the ski areas where many of the staff will be Australians or other English-speakers who have flown ten hours or so from home to get their fill of the snow!

I think I have a solution for what we should put together for Rachel’s birthday bash. We should sort out some time at val disere chalet as a surprise, it is her favourite and it is her 21st, what do you all think?
